  • Basic Overview

  • 57% Diammonium Phosphate (DAP, Diammonium Phosphate) is a high-concentration, fast-acting, binary compound fertilizer of nitrogen and phosphorus. Its "57%" refers to the mass percentage of total nutrients (N+P₂O₅) in the fertilizer. This is one of the most common and classic specifications of diammonium phosphate in the current market, renowned for its high efficiency and stability, and is hailed as the "ace compound fertilizer".

Granularity 80%
Water (H2O) mass fraction 2.5%
  • Typical chemical components and their contents

· Nitrogen (N) content: approximately 18%

· Phosphorus (P₂O₅) content: approximately 46%

·Total nutrients (N+P₂O₅) : ≥ 57%

· Nitrogen form: Ammonium nitrogen (NH₄⁺)

· Phosphorus form: Water-soluble phosphorus that can be directly absorbed by crops.

· Physical properties: Usually grayish-white or dark gray granules, readily soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is weakly alkaline (pH approximately 8.0).

  • Main features and advantages

· High nutrient concentration: With a total nutrient content of 57%, it is at a high level among similar products, indicating a high concentration of active ingredients, few impurities, and relatively low transportation and application costs.

· Good quick-acting performance: The nitrogen and phosphorus it contains are both water-soluble and can quickly dissolve in soil water, being rapidly absorbed by crop roots. It is particularly suitable as base fertilizer and early top dressing.

· Outstanding phosphorus content: Its high phosphorus characteristic (P₂O₅ 46%) plays an irreplaceable role in promoting root development, flower bud differentiation, flowering and fruiting, and plump grains of crops. It is particularly suitable for crops with high phosphorus requirements and phosphorus-deficient soils.

· Good compatibility: It is often used as a base fertilizer and mixed with single-component fertilizers such as urea, potassium chloride, and potassium sulfate for application. It can be flexibly configured into different ratios of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium packages.

· Strong stability: The particles have good hardness, are not prone to caking, and are convenient for storage and mechanical application.

  • Main applicable crops and functions

  • Field crops

·For corn, wheat and rice, it can be used as base fertilizer to promote root growth and strengthen seedlings, laying a solid foundation for high yields in the later stage.

·Cotton, rape, peanuts and soybeans: Promote flowering and podding (bolls), increase podding rate and oil content.

  • Cash crops

·For fruit trees (such as apples, citrus fruits, grapes, etc.) : Apply base fertilizer in autumn or bud fertilizer in spring to promote flower bud differentiation and increase fruit setting rate.

· Vegetables (cucurbit, solanaceous, tuber) : Used during seedling raising and transplanting periods to cultivate strong seedlings and promote fruit development.

·Tobacco, tea and sugarcane: As important sources of phosphorus, they improve quality.

· Main functions:

·Promote root growth and strengthen seedlings during the seedling stage to enhance their stress resistance (cold and drought resistance).

·It promotes reproductive growth in the middle stage, retains flowers and fruits.

·In the later stage, it promotes grain filling and tuber swelling, thereby increasing yield and quality.

  • Application Method

· Base fertilizer (recommended) : Before sowing or transplanting, apply it deeply in combination with land preparation (it is suggested to apply it 10-20 cm deep), avoiding surface broadcasting to reduce nitrogen volatilization and phosphorus fixation.

· Seed fertilizer: It can be applied simultaneously with seeds, but a certain distance must be maintained (5-7 cm deep on the side) to prevent seed and seedling burning.

·Early topdressing: It is suitable for crops with a long growth period and should be applied as early as possible. In the later stage, nitrogen and potassium fertilizers are generally needed in combination.

  • Precautions

·Avoid mixing with alkaline fertilizers/substances: such as wood ash, lime, etc. Mixing will cause ammonia volatilization loss and reduce fertilizer efficiency.

·It is preferred for phosphorus-deficient soils and neutral and calcareous soils: In strongly acidic soils, phosphorus is easily fixed, and the effect will be reduced. It can be used in combination with organic fertilizers to improve the soil.

·The ratio of nitrogen to phosphorus is fixed: its N:P₂O₅ is approximately 1:2.5. For crops with high nitrogen requirements (such as leafy vegetables) or in the later growth stage, additional nitrogen fertilizers (such as urea) and potassium fertilizers must be supplemented to achieve nutrient balance.

  • Summary

·57% diammonium phosphate is a core basic fertilizer with phosphorus as the main component and high nitrogen and phosphorus content. It serves as the "power source" for the early growth of crops, and is particularly adept at "laying a solid foundation, promoting root systems, and preserving flowers and fruits". In modern agricultural production, it is rarely used alone but as an important part of "formula fertilization", scientifically proportioning with nitrogen fertilizers, potassium fertilizers and trace element fertilizers to jointly achieve the goal of high-yield and high-quality crops.
