  • Basic Information

· Chemical Name: Superphosphate

· Main components: Mainly monocalcium phosphate (Ca(H₂PO₄)₂·H₂O), and a large amount of inactive calcium sulfate (CaSO₄, accounting for about 50%). In addition, it also contains a small amount of free phosphoric acid, free sulfuric acid, and various trace elements (such as iron, aluminum, magnesium, silicon, etc.).

· Available phosphorus content: 14% - 18% P₂O₅ (diphosphorus pentoxide). This "available phosphorus" includes water-soluble phosphorus and structure-soluble phosphorus (soluble in neutral ammonium citrate solution), both of which can be absorbed by plants.

· Appearance: Usually in the form of grayish-white, light yellow or grayish-brown powder or granules.

 · Acidity and alkalinity: It is acidic (due to the presence of free acid) and is a chemically acidic fertilizer.

· Solubility: Partially soluble in water, and the aqueous solution is acidic.

  • Main features and functions

Core function: Provide available phosphorus

·Phosphorus is one of the three essential elements for plant growth (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) and is of vital importance to crops.

· Promote root development: Especially when applied during the seedling stage, it can enable the root system to grow early and rapidly, enhancing the crop's ability to absorb water and nutrients.

· Promote flowering and fruiting: It can promote flower bud differentiation, retain flowers and fruits, increase fruit setting rate, and make fruits and grains plump.

· Enhance resistance: Improve the cold and drought resistance of crops.

· Accelerate maturity: Promote early maturity of crops and improve quality.

Medium elements are provided incidentally

·Because it contains a large amount of calcium sulfate (gypsum), it also provides calcium and sulfur elements for the soil, which can improve some soils lacking calcium and sulfur.

Improve alkaline soil

·Due to its acidity, when applied to slightly alkaline soil, it can play a role in local neutralization and regulating soil pH, thereby enhancing the availability of phosphorus.

  • Advantages

· Good quick-availability: The phosphorus contained exists in a quick-availability form and can be absorbed and utilized by crops relatively quickly.

· Wide application range: It can be used on the vast majority of crops and soils (especially suitable for neutral and calcareous soils).

· Diverse functions: It has the function of providing phosphorus, calcium and sulfur.

· Economical price: Compared with high-concentration phosphate fertilizers (such as diammonium phosphate), the price per unit nutrient is usually cheaper.

  • Applicable crops and soils

· Applicable crops: Almost all crops require phosphorus fertilizer. It is particularly effective for leguminous crops (soybeans, peanuts), cruciferous crops (rapeseed), root and tuber crops (potatoes, sweet potatoes), melons and fruits, and cereal crops during the seedling stage and reproductive growth stage.

· Applicable soil: Suitable for neutral, slightly alkaline or calcareous soil. In strongly acidic soil, the fixation effect is more severe and the fertilizer efficiency decreases. It is recommended to apply it in combination with organic fertilizer or make it into granular fertilizer.

  • Application Method Suggestions (Key to Improving Fertilizer Efficiency)

· Concentrated application rather than broadcasting: Use methods such as hole application, strip application, and furrow application to concentrate the fertilizer on the soil layer where the crop roots are dense, reducing the contact area with the soil.

· Deep application and soil cover: Phosphorus has poor mobility in the soil and must be applied to the root active layer (usually 10-20 centimeters underground).

Mixed application with organic fertilizer:

·One of the best ways. The organic acids produced during the decomposition of organic fertilizers can complex iron, aluminum and calcium ions in the soil, effectively reducing the fixation of phosphorus. Meanwhile, the acidity of superphosphate can promote the decomposition of organic fertilizers.

  • Summary

18% superphosphate is a classic and cost-effective fast-acting phosphate fertilizer. Although it has the disadvantages of low nutrient concentration and easy fixation by the soil, its utilization rate can be significantly improved through scientific application methods (concentrated deep application, combined with organic fertilizers). It is particularly suitable as base fertilizer for crops that need to promote root development and flowering and fruiting, and still holds an irreplaceable position in agricultural production. For ordinary farmers and small-scale growers, it remains an extremely cost-effective phosphate fertilizer choice.
