NPK 20-5-20 is a compound fertilizer with high nitrogen, medium phosphorus and high potassium content, which is highly suitable for the needs of apple trees during their vigorous growth period (spring to early summer) and fruit expansion period (summer). The following are its specific applicable methods and precautions
Applicable period
·From the time of spring sprouting to before flowering: Promote the growth of new shoots and the development of leaves, laying a foundation for flowering and fruit setting.
·From flower drop to the young fruit stage: Supports the cell division and early expansion of young fruits, as well as the continuous growth of spring shoots.
·Fruit expansion period (critical period) : This is the time when the formula can best exert its advantages (usually in summer). High potassium can significantly promote fruit enlargement, sugar increase, coloring and quality improvement. Meanwhile, an appropriate amount of nitrogen ensures leaf function and provides photosynthetic products for fruit growth.
·After fruit harvest (as appropriate) : If the tree is weak, a small amount (lower than the amount used during the growing season) can be applied after harvest to promote recovery and nutrient return and reserve, laying a foundation for the coming year. However, caution should be exercised to avoid overly stimulating the growth of autumn shoots and thereby reducing cold resistance.
Application method
Soil broadcasting (most commonly used) : Evenly spread the fertilizer near the drip line of the tree crown (the outer edge of the vertical projection of the tree crown) and slightly inward. This is the main distribution area of the absorbing roots. Avoid scattering it directly at the base of the tree trunk.
Application in furrows or acupoints
Circular trench application: Dig a trench about 20-30 cm deep and 20-30 cm wide along the drip line of the tree crown, sprinkle the fertilizer and cover it with soil.
Radial furrow application: Dig 4 to 8 radial furrows outward from the trunk (shallower inside and deeper outside to avoid damaging large roots), apply the fertilizer into the furrows and cover with soil.
Hole application: Dig multiple fertilizer holes evenly under the tree canopy (20-30 centimeters deep), apply the fertilizer and then cover it with soil.
